Newtons Cafe & Noodle Bar

Awesome Malaysian food in tucked inside an unassuming lunch bar on Newton Road. Brings back memories of Albert’s Place at Mercury Plaza from many years ago. Well worth a visit.

It’s Purple.

Friday afternoon pick me up, Purple Fairy. As far as I know, no actual fairies, purple or otherwise, were harmed in making this drink. It’s actually purple kumara and dragon fruit. Quite cool. Purple Rain cool. Also tasty.

Post Badminton Intensive Rehydration

Bull Demon King with Golden Diamond Milk Tea and Mango on Fire.

So it turns out that when you go demon hunting as a responsible hunter, you should eat what you catch. Sam and Dean eating burgers and bacon? That’s not beef or pork.

Not sure about the process to turn a demon into tea but the people at Yu Cha have figured out how to turn a nasty old Bull Demon King into a surprisingly nicely sweet milk tea. Who knew? True story. Like Girl Guide biscuits made out of real Girl Guides.

Mango in Fire is essentially mango and dragon fruit with a little added lemon jade at the bottom and salted cream cheese on top.

Post Badminton (mostly) Protein Fix

Newly opened last week, Beijing Cuisine is in the space most recently occupied by Chongqing Hot Noodles on the corner of Dominion and View Roads.

We had beef and spring onion pie, chicken and spring onion pie, pork and fennel pan fried dumplings and chicken and corn pan fried dumplings.

A nice touch, they advised we could pick two flavours for the pie as a single one is 500gms and then it came out as two separate small pies.

Will be returning to try other things, like their pork chilli caraway dumplings and their chicken buns. Excellent value too.

Beef with Spring Onion Pie – $10/500gms
Chicken with Spring Onion Pie – $12/500gms
Pork with Fennel Dumplings, Pan-fried – L$11 (15 pieces)
Chicken with Corn Dumplings, Pan-fried – L$11 (15 pieces)

Barney Smoothie!

Not really.

A new bubble tea place opened a couple of weeks ago and who can resist bubble tea?

This one is Dragon Fruit with Lemon Jade on the bottom and Salted Cream Cheese on top.

Next time I will probably try Bull Demon King With Golden Diamond Milk Tea simply because the name is pretty damn cool.

Snack Attack!!

salted-egg-crab-seaweed-tempura

Salted Egg Crab Seaweed Tempura – (From the back) Sometimes it’s good to go with the grain. The pleasing graininess of the salted egg yolk balances perfectly with our light, crisp tempura batter, created and prepared with all the magic of our kitchens. Your reward is an ocean of flavours – the sweetness of real crab, slightly smoky seaweed, and a rich salted egg finish.

A little bit wordy but tastes damn good.
